Y.N.P Map Series

acrylic paint, ink & epoxy on wood

initial sketch

This series explores the ways in which a functional object, a map, can become a piece of art. Inspired by the vibrancy of the Grand Prismatic Springs of Yellowstone National Park, the bold colors are used to emphasize the lines, creating abstract shapes.

Selected for the MSU show and displayed at the Livingston Center for Arts & Culture.

original series (6 out of 8)

Maps referenced from "A Ranger's Guide to Yellowstone Day Hikes", began by sketching maps to emphasize certain lines. Then created a series of 8 maps comprised of layers of mylar, ink & acrylic paint. Later revisited the series to find a better way to display the vibrancy of the color. This involved sealing the mylar in using expoxy that gives the updated series a nice sheen.
